While you may know about good luck charms from your own culture such as a rabbit’s foot or a four leaf clover, you may not know about good luck charms from other parts of the world. Every culture has its own good luck charms.
Insects are often considered good luck charms. In Asia, crickets are considered to bring good luck. They have found their way into modern cultures. You probably remember crikee in Mulan and Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio. There is also a book called The Cricket in Times Square. Lady bugs are said to bring good luck when they land on you. However, if you kill it you will supposedly be doomed. At one time, a dragon fly was supposed to bring a good rice crop. Ancient Egyptians considered the scarab beetles to bring them good luck.
There are many other things found in nature that are considered to be good luck. The Norse people believed both the acorn and the one who brought it brought good luck to them. A single acorn is also believed to keep lightening away if is placed on a window sill.
Rainbows are considered to be lucky because legend has it that there is a pot of gold at the end of each rainbow. The rainbow also has seven different colors. The number seven is discussed later in the article.

There are also certain icons believed to be good luck charms. Buddha is one such example. It is believed to bring especially good luck if you rub the Buddha’s belly. Another example is St. Christopher which is believed to be the Roman Catholic’s patron saint of travel. Catholics often wear the icon around their neck or hang it in their car.
There are certain man made objects that are believed to be good luck charms. The horseshoe is considered especially lucky if it is hung on the wall. They are made by blacksmiths and a blacksmith is considered to be a lucky profession. Dream catchers are believed to be lucky by Native Americans because they catch bad dreams.
